Short Term Experience & Preparation (STEP)
Background
Since 1982, STEP volunteers or STEPers have come to serve alongside local Philippine churches in training, mobilizing and encouraging our lay people to Christ. The STEPers are mainly young adults from the USA who have given their vacation season or taken time from their jobs and their families to serve Jesus Christ in our nation.
Looking Ahead
In the following years, PhilChal's STEP aims to "pay forward" this act by recruiting volunteers from churches in the Philippines who will in turn serve alongside local churches and lay people of other countries. STEPers from the Philippines will have exposure and training locally. First, they will assist STEPers from other countries, and then are deployed to other countries.

TWO-FOLD PURPOSE OF STEP

It is a tool used by PhilChal to introduce interested people to real life missionary experience.
A STEPer must raise their own funds, adjust to a new living conditions, experience the frustration of a limited ability to communicate, and experience a cross-cultural ministry first hand. The "team times" and retreats that STEPers will participate in are designed to help them gain an understanding of their feelings.

It is a tool which may be used by a local church to gain new Bible study contacts in an area targeted for church planting or church growth.
It is the desire of PC that the program effectively assist each of the chuches in accomplising their plans for evangelistic expansion.
